I recently had the privilege of working with a client who embodied this very challenge.
She entered our sessions knowing what she didn’t want…for things to stay the same.
So we moved her from what she didn’t want towards what she did with a powerful goal: to engineer change and create expansion in her life.
Afraid that months down the line nothing would shift, she sought a clear intention that would pave the way for excitement, growth, and evolution.
A Journey of Intentional Change
At the outset, my client was driven by a deep seated desire for a life that broke free from the mundane.
Yet, like many of us, part of her was held hostage by the comfort of familiarity.
In our coaching sessions, we explored her fears; those insistent voices born from limiting beliefs and uncertainty about the unknown.
Beneath that resistance, however, lay a higher part of herself that knew exactly what she truly desired.
We began by setting a bold intention: a mental blueprint for the future she yearned for.
As she articulated her vision – a vision filled with dynamic opportunities and expansive change – we noted the familiar tension between what was safe and what was possible.
I guided her through a process of deep reflection, asking questions such as, “What decision have you been ready to make for a long time?” and “What is preventing you from taking that step?”
These questions compelled her to shine a light on her internal resistance and recognize that every small leap beyond her comfort zone could accumulate into monumental change.
Making the Leap: From Resistance to Action
Consider the story of many transformative journeys: an entrepreneur risking a stable career to pursue a passion, an artist daring to share vulnerable work with the world, or even a community leader challenging the status quo for the sake of progress.
Much like these powerful examples, my client found that true transformation lies just on the other side of discomfort.
